Women's Report

Zone 6 ran an over 60’s Tournament at Phoenix Bowling Club in Oamaru.  Two teams of four travelled to Oamaru and played 5 rounds of fours over two days. Centres taking place were South Otago, (SO), Southland (SthL), Dunedin (DUN), North Otago (NO),Central Otago (CO) and South Canterbury(SC).

Rd 1: Team 1, Linda Gallagher (Geraldine), Jill Bennett (Kia Toa), Lorraine Tyro (Temuka), Caroline Marshall (Kia Toa) in Rd 1, beat NO 11-8, Rd 2: lost to CO, 10-15, Rd 3: lost to DUN, 15-16, Rd 4: beat SthL, 19-11, Rd 5: beat SO, 20-9.  6 points gained.   

Team 2: Lyn Wilkie, (Timaru), Jackie Holley (Kia Toa), Ann Woffenden, (Kia Toa), Maria  Davey (Temuka) Rd 1: lost to DUN, 13-18, Rd 2: lost to SthL,12-13, Rd 3: lost to SO, 9-18, Rd 4: lost to NO, 9-15, RD 5: lost to CO, 7-20.

Overall, the winners were: Dunedin with  22pts, 2nd was Southland on 17pts, 3rd was Central Otago on 15 pts, 4th was North Otago on 14 pts, 5th was South Otago on 10 pts, 6th was South Canterbury on 9 pts.

The South Canterbury Over 60's Men's representative team played at the Phoenix Bowling club on the 11th and 12th March. The provinces that participated were Southland, South Otago, Dunedin, North Otago, Central Otago, and South Canterbury.

Each province had two teams of fours and they played each other in a round robin. Both South Canterbury fours teams had an outstanding result with both teams having four wins out of five and were winners of the event, with complete control and outstanding performances.

South Canterbury's team one were, Garry Ford (skip), Colin Hobbs, Lindsay Bell, and Dick Bennett who had great wins against North Otago, Central Otago, Dunedin, and South Otago, only going down to the Southland team.

Team two was skipped by Trevor Cloughley and consisted of Ian Holley, Paul Goddard, and Barry Black. They had good wins against a strong Dunedin Southland, North Otago, and Central Otago, only going down to the South Otago team.

Both skips Ford and Cloughley played brilliant bowls and guided their team to outstanding wins and was full of praise for the way their team played on and off the green.
