So what is club swimming?
Club swimming is where those children that have already learnt to swim (Freestyle), would like to step it up and compete but at an entry level only - it really is about "Personal Bests" (PB's) in other words each time your child swims they are only competing against themselves and their personal best time, while there will be other kids swimming alongside them, that is really only for the challenge.
Before you join the club you can trial - to do this just turn up at any one of our club nights and enter a couple of races - you can attend two trail events for FREE.
Club swimming is mainly "Club Nights" on Sunday's at 3pm (usually 1 event a month) - and swimming against each other in the club only; swimmers usually enter 4 races, and these are different in length and stroke at every meet, so the swimmer can practice racing in any stroke over 25, 50, 100 or 200 metres. The four strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breastroke and Butterfly) and once they have all four strokes sorted they can enter the Individual Medley (IM).
We sometimes visit other local clubs (Masterton, Featherston & Greytown) to compete in Metro Events and once or twice a year as a CLUB we all go to Palmerston North or Dannevirke and compete against other larger clubs.
You'll see families at each event, we run a BBQ and even a raffle - entry usually costs $3 and that is to cover hireage of the pool - you are free to bring other family members along to enjoy our afternoons. The committee are working on the seating!!
Once your child has the confidence and the ability to swim all four strokes well, they can choose to step up into the fully competitive environment. (To do this you should talk to the coach (Russell) and then you'll need to pay the Swim NZ (SNZ) competitive fee, before you are eligible to swim.See you all at the pool.
