Selection Policy
The WCRC Selection Policy sets out the basis for selection into crews for regattas, and for the NZ Secondary Schools Championship regatta ("Maadi Cup").
This policy is emailed to all families and available on the website here throughout the season.
Crew selection is a fair and transparent process. All selected crews, novice and returning rowers, compete in several regattas, including the NISSC at Lake Karapiro in March. This competition marks the end of the regular rowing season.
Some of the Club’s crews will go on to compete at the National Secondary Schools Championship (Maadi) but generally Wellington College does not send Novice rowers to Maadi. Maadi Cup selection is based on our selection policy and is treated as a representative team chosen after NISSC.
Throughout the rowing programme, there is an emphasis on rowing technique and we invest time and effort developing good habits. Many new rowers outgrow their strength and it is important to develop core muscle groups.
