What we take to Camps and overnight Regattas

Packing

  • Refer to list on right for gear lists
  • You need to ensure your rower is taking the right items. Please refer to the packing list -> see attached
  • The weather can be variable at this time of year so be prepared in case of cold weather or rain. Throughout the camp, the boys will need a lot of warm clothes - polar fleece, polyprop and beanies - clothes that dry quickly and keep the boys warm.  This will be an issue especially for early morning rows.

  • PLEASE MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS NAMED. We do our best to do a final lost property but overall your rower is responsible for their belongings.

  • As this is a camp (i.e., not a regatta) boys will be in mufti clothes for travelling and while at camp.  As the novices don’t have row suits yet, please make sure they have suitable sportswear for rowing – light/breathable/not too loose and as said above, warm layers.

  • We will be doing limited laundry of non-bulky items (e.g. smalls/tees/shorts).

  • Boys should have all their clothing etc in one soft bag. They will also need a sleeping bag and pillow.  Ideally, the bag for the clothes should be about the size of the WCRC bags.  Please do not pack in suitcases as there is not enough room for them in minivans or cabins.

Food contributions

  • ALL rowers and coxes are to contribute to providing baking or fruit for the camp, each squad will bring either fruit, baking and/or some flavoured mil cartons - parents will be advused pre-camp what each squad should bring.
  • Baking: Please bring either home baking in a container that doesn’t need to be repatriated (e.g. an ice cream container) or in one that is clearly labelled with ingredients. If you are unable to provide home baking, please bring along two loaves of supermarket banana bread.  Note: store bought biscuits aren't suitable.
  • Fruit: Please bring a 1.5 bag of apples or 1.5kgs of oranges/mandarins or 1.5 kgs of kiwifruit/pears - any fruit that will be ready to eat over the period of Spring camp but not over-ripe.
  • All food contributions need to go to a parent helper on arrival at the train station for departure.

  • Nutrition is important on camps - the club provides the relevant meals through the day, first breakfast, second breakfast, lunch and dinner.
