Kapa Haka at Te Mahia School

At Te Mahia School, Kapa Haka plays a vital role in strengthening our cultural identity and school spirit. We proudly run two rōpū: our Junior group (Years 1–4) and our Senior group (Years 5–8). Both groups participate in fortnightly sessions where tamariki learn and practise waiata (songs), haka, and actions that reflect our local stories, iwi, and rohe.

Kapa Haka is a powerful way for our students to express themselves, build confidence, and deepen their understanding of te ao Māori. It also promotes teamwork, discipline, and pride in their heritage.

Each year, we look forward to celebrating and showcasing our learning at the Wairoa Kapa Haka Festival in Term 4, where the whole school comes together to stand tall and represent our kura.
