Charlene has been involved in netball in Rotorua for over 50 years. Her contribution to netball as a coach and umpire has been entirely voluntary.
Charlene began her netball coaching career with the Waikite Netball Club, where she started coaching primary school teams at the age of 15. From there, she moved on to coaching the Waikite Daisies (taking over the mantle from Daisy Rogers). Char then transitioned into an administrative role as President of the Waikite Netball Club and held this position for several years. Char is currently their Patron.
Charlene then started coaching Netball Rotorua Rep Teams.
Charlene gave outstanding service making sure her coaching sessions were well planned and executed. Her hours of commitment were given freely to those teams. Charlene’s passion was with the younger age group teams instilling into them not only skills of the game but also behavior and respect. She has worked hard on completing her Coaching Levels CCA 1 and 2 and PCQ 1 to become a qualified Coach.
Besides coaching at Club and Rep Level Charlene was also involved with Waiariki Māori Netball teams coaching U15 and U17 age groups.
Charlene has always assisted with any Magic and Silver Fern games held in Rotorua and given hours of her time assisting at our Kurangaituku Tournaments.
She has been the voice on our PA system (Saturdays and tournament days).
As an Executive Member and Vice President at Netball Rotorua, she was always ready to assist, give advice and guidance in any matters pertaining to netball. Because of her high profile around our courts, players would approach her with any problems or advice and she would always bring anything she couldn't solve to the Executive table.
Charlene has been an inspiration to us all, her impact on players and coaches is something to be admired and we miss having her on our Executive.
Charlene hopes to still be involved with netball in Rotorua but also wants time to follow her grandchildren in their chosen sports
We wish her well for the future and enjoy seeing her on occasion at our Centre.
