Mary Thompson

Surely Mary is the face of Rotorua Netball? 

Mary has been on the Netball Rotorua Executive for over 50 years and has been Secretary since 1975..

REGIONAL SERVICE

  • Mary was a founding manager of the Bay of Plenty Magic Netball Team (later to become Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic).

  • She is the Event Co-ordinator for all Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic games in Rotorua.

  • Mary has volunteered at Tauranga and Hamilton for the Magic games when required.

  • She has assisted with Waikato/Bay of Plenty Zone Forums when held in Rotorua.

  • Mary played Representative Netball for Waikato before moving to Rotorua.

  • Mary held an Umpiring Qualification at Zone/Regional Level.

  • Mary was the first chairperson for the Bay of Plenty Regional when it became a region in the early 1990s.

  • Netball Bay of Plenty awarded Mary a Life Membership Award.

  • She also has Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone Life Membership

Thompson’s contribution to the Bay of Plenty Region has been recognised with Service (2001) and Life Membership (2008) awards, along with a Sport Bay of Plenty Service to Sport Award (2008) and Community Leadership Award for Services to Sport in 2012.

NATIONAL SERVICE

Mary is/has been the Events Manager at the following National Tournaments when held in Rotorua

  • Lion Foundation – National Championships
  • Netball New Zealand - Age Group Tournaments
  • Netball New Zealand Secondary School Championships
  • Silver Ferns games when they have been held in Rotorua.

Mary also has been awarded Netball New Zealand Service Awards
