Student Driver/Passenger Policy

No passengers may be carried unless further permission is sought i.e. until the parents/caregivers of the driver and the parents/caregivers of the passenger have completed the appropriate forms and returned them to the Sports Office.  Drivers carrying passengers must hold a full licence and the vehicle they are driving must be deemed road worthy at time of travel, according to NZTA guidelines.

Communication

It is our intention to foster strong communication between team management and athletes in order to avoid any conflict.  It is the responsibility of each team member to communicate their intentions with regards to holidays, timetable conflicts, absence from practice etc as soon as possible.

Over Commitment

We urge parents and coaches to monitor the sporting workload that each student undertakes.  The training and playing demands of participating in upwards of two ‘A’ or ‘1st’ Grade sports at the same time can be daunting. Our school prioritises academic achievement first, if sporting participation may be detrimental to this then we ask that parents intervene.  The school will act to contact parents/caregivers if staff witness worrying signs of athlete over commitment and associated symptoms. The wellbeing of the students is always the priority.

Gym Bookings

These are done through the Sports Office.

Accessing Gear

Specific sports may have individual access to equipment via parent’s committee groups or clubs.  If you find that you need equipment in order to operate your practices then contact the Sports Office as early as possible in order to resolve this situation.

School Weights Room

The school weights room is available for use by senior students.  Membership is $10 per term and can be organised through the Physical Education office. This facility can be utilised outside of class time.  Appropriate behaviour is expected at all time. Behaviour to the contrary will amount to cancellation of membership without refund.

Sports Captains

The Sports Captains are responsible for implementing lunchtime events and promoting sport at Waimea College. This group will assist the Sports Office in running sport.

Concerns

If there is any issue with a student or parent/caregiver in the team you are involved with, please contact the Sports Office to discuss.
