The Country team were in dominating form in winning the Noel Kerr Family Trophy played at West End Bowling Club in blustery conditions.
In the Seniors the Country team got away to a flyer with outstanding bowls from 3rd year bowler Brodie Devine, completely outplaying town's Shayne Chisnall with ease.
In the pairs games Mitchell Dunbar and Alphy Trevathan were too strong for the Town combination of Barrie Andrews and Garry Ford. Alphy was dominant up front but Mitchell Dunbar continued his excellent form after winning the Rusty MacDonald tournament two weeks ago, and was the in-form player of the day with some sensational shots.
The other Pairs game was a great battle with Town's Adrian Robins who had an outstanding season last year continuing his good form, and Dan Johnston who is in his first year as a senior, combined well together against the tidy and steady combination of Sam Morton and Dave Wood.
In the Fours the Country team showed their class and outsmarted the Town team. It was good to see Dave Carey back playing bowls after a short break and he will be an asset to the South Canterbury team as he guided the Country team to victory over Town's Dean Harper, Dave McNeill, Lockie Barnes, and Bruce Wakefield.
In the Development the Country team also prevailed over Town, but it was a lot closer. In the Singles Nigel Mobberley showed his experience in playing Singles for South Canterbury and raced away with an epic win against Country's Andrew Bell.
In the Pairs for Country Jason Rhodes and Kieran Aker dominated the match against the more experienced bowlers Jarod Barker and Aaron Taylor. Aker was sensational up front and Rhodes tidied up when he had to, and added bonus when required with an outstanding victory.
In the other Pairs match the Country team of Anthony Holland and Kevin Stuart played against Paul Brohan and Chris Dawson. Holland had new bowler Stuart leading for him and he set up the victory with outstanding leading and Holland was solid at skip, racing away to an early lead. Brohan got his game together and they closed the gap to 23 - 20.
In the Fours the Town team of Gareth Burgess, Philip Quinn, Barry Black, and Jason Browning lead most of the game but dropped a three on the last end to tie the match against the Country team of Nathan Sheppard, Dion Glennie, Neil Kingston, and Jaques Volschenk. For the Country team Sheppard and Glennie were outstanding and for Town Burgess Quinn, and Browning were solid all game.
This is first time the Country team has won the Noel Kerr Family Trophy, outclassing the Town team.
