The South Canterbury Senior Men's Representative team were all class in winning the Quadrangular tournament played at the Temuka Bowling Club on Sunday 30th November and receiving the Gordon Jolly Trophy. South Canterbury were up against teams from Canterbury Town, Canterbury Country and neighbours North Otago.

South Canterbury got away to a great start in winning all four games in the first round but in the second round they managed two wins with both the pairs games going down to nail biting finishes, and both pairs losing by one shot.

This made it an exciting last round with South Canterbury level on points with the Canterbury Town team. In a crucial game Adrian Robins, South Canterbury's Singles player was up against the other unbeaten Singles player Canterbury Town's Chase Bishop, and once again Robins showed his class as being one of South Canterbury's best Singles players at present, winning in style to give South Canterbury a hand on the trophy.

In the Fours game Dean Harper, Alphy Trevathan, Dave Wood, and Dave Curtis had a memorable victory against Canterbury Town on the last end with the head changing on numerous occasions, and South Canterbury winning by two shots.

South Canterbury's other pair of Marshall Stoddart and Nigel Mobberley were outbowled by North Otago's best, Dylan Edwards and Andrew MacGregor.

This made the last game on the green being played with Sam Morton and Mitchell Dunbar up against the Canterbury Country team and the game lived up to be a cracker. Morton, down on the head and one down on the board, Canterbury Country skip Kevin Diggs drew another shot, but Morton cool as ever drew a beauty with his second bowl to give South Canterbury shot, and the draw with one bowl each to go. Diggs missed with his last bowl and Sam Morton didn't play his last bowl as he realised it was enough for South Canterbury to win. Morton saved his winning dance to after the game as he had celebrated a bit early last year in the final of the National Fours as everyone believed he played the winning bowl, but was denied by a brilliant bowl by Mike Galloway to lose in a heartbreaker.

South Canterbury were outstanding on the day to lose just three games, with two games only by one shot.

Special mention to the South Canterbury Four of Dean Harper, Alphy Trevathan, Dave Wood, and Dave Curtis in winning all three games as did the ever reliable Adrian Robins in the Singles.

Peter Tutton, the manager of the South Canterbury team  was speechless at the end of game.

The South Canterbury Development team were so close in winning the Development Quadrangular played at Temuka on Sunday, going down by shot differential.

In the first round like the Seniors the development team had an outstanding first round with four great wins.

In the second round the South Canterbury Singles and Fours had classy wins; with both Pairs going down in close battles.

Going into the last round the Canterbury Town team were one win ahead of South Canterbury, but had a huge differential, so this meant that South Canterbury needed to win all games in the last round.

In the Singles Dinga Bell, who was a late call up, had outstanding wins in his first two games, was up against the Canterbury Country player and once again won in style to finish the Quadrangular unbeaten, and to give South Canterbury chance.

In the Pairs game Jason Rhodes and Aaron Taylor had a tough battle on Rink 8 against the leading Canterbury Town team but they stuck to their guns and won a hard fought game by five shots.

In the Fours South Canterbury's Gareth Burgess, Anthony Holland,  Jason Browning, and Keiran Aker were also up against the Canterbury Town team, and it was a battle of the unbeaten teams. South Canterbury took an early lead and on a crucial end Burgess drove out the shot bowl to give South Canterbury five shots. They shut down the game after that with outstanding bowls by the men up front.

Unfortunately in their last game Paul Brohan and Mick Ross were outplayed by the North Otago pair. The Canterbury Town team had easy wins in the Singles and Pairs to give them the victory.

Burgess, the South Canterbury captain was gutted by the narrow loss, but recalled a lot of close losses to Celtic in Rugby finals as well. He was proud by the way the players did their best and left it all out there on green.
