Outstanding Development Squad:

It's been a while since the Development Players won the Quadrangular Tournament playing against Canterbury Red , Canterbury Black and North Otago.

With an outstanding display by the Singles player Carol Fowler of Pleasant Point winning all 3 games, Carol showed class winning her matches 25 - 7 against Canterbury Black; 25 - 11 against North Otago; and 25 - 10 against Canterbury Red.

Also winning all three games were Pair 1 with Lead Shell Mcgrath (Fairlie) and Mel Reid (Temuka) having wins over Canterbury Red 24 - 14; 18 - 11 over Canterbury Black; and a tough battle against North Otago 18 - 13.

Pair 2 Lead Chrissy Herbert (Pleasant Point) and Lynne Hodges (West End) Had three great wins and played some stunning bowls. 17 - 5 against North Otago;  20 - 11 against Canterbury Red; and 21 - 7 over Canterbury Black.

The Fours managed one win against North Otago 20 - 7 and some very close games against both Canterbury teams 10 - 19 and 11 - 15.

This team had three players new to representative bowls and they played some great bowls.  With Lead Raewyn Williams (Waimate), Leanne Hollever (Waimate), Helen Lowe (Waimate), and skip Jo Lane (Fairlie). These ladies played beautifully all day.

End result:

1st - South Canterbury 30 points

2nd - Canterbury Black 18 points

3rd - Canterbury Red 15 points

4th - North Otago 12 points

Manager and selector Carolynn Darby was impressed by the whole team.

Seniors:

The South Canterbury Senior team were second overall in their section, with a well drilled Canterbury Red taking the win 35 points, then South Canterbury with 16 points, Canterbury Black with 13 points, and North Otago with 8 points.

Singles player Sharon Leonard (Kia Toa) had some close matches 18 - 20 against Canterbury Black; 21 - 21 against North Otago; and 20 - 21 against Canterbury Red. A great effort.

Pair 1 of Lead Anne Wooffindin and Sam McAuliffe (both Kia Toa) had some great games going down narrowly 14 - 15 against Canterbury Red and a great win against Canterbury Black 20 - 8, and a win over North Otago  15 - 14.

Pair 2 of Lead Eileen Rabbidge and Lyn Wilkie (both Timaru) played well only getting the one win for the day against Canterbury Black 19 - 17. With losses against Canterbury Red 23 - 14 and North Otago 22 - 9.

The Fours of Lead Julie McAuley (Kia Toa), 2nd Carol Lee (Timaru), Linda Gallagher (Geraldine), and skip Barbara Tiffen (Geraldine) had two wins for the day against North Otago 11 - 10 and Canterbury Black 13 - 5, with a loss against Canterbury Red 10 - 14. Great bowls were played. Manager/Selector Mata Frankum was pleased with her team. 

A huge thanks to the Geraldine Bowling Club for hosting this event. Volunteers are the backbone at every club. Well done for a pleasant day of bowls.
