Formation of the Valley Sports Club 1988

The Valley Rugby Club was the formation of 3 clubs, Union situated at Ngapara, Enfield at Enfield and the Weston Pirates at Weston.The main instigator of the club amalgamation was Colin Mavor who could foresee the decline in numbers of the 3 clubs and arranged meetings to discuss the future.Union being a very successful club through the years were first against amalgamation but as the cold hard facts were presented saw that the future was not very bright. Enfield and Weston Pirates were struggling for numbers and saw the inevitable was to amalgamate or fold up.October 18th 1988 saw the first annual meeting called and 70 people attended. The meeting was held at the Weston Pirates Clubrooms at Weston Park and delegates from the three clubs formed the first committee of the Valley Rugby Club.Those elected were:President - Colin MavorVice-President - Bill KinganJunior Vice - Peter TwissSecretary - Dennis SandriTreasurer - Norman HayesDelegates to represent the 3 previous clubs Union - Peter Twiss & Bill Stackhouse, Enfield - Robin Manson & Ross Cleveland, Weston Pirates - Lawrence Hardy & Stu McLeod. Each club decided to hand over assets.Enfield - $3500 plus all the gear and use of their clubroomsUnion - Their clubrooms to be hired at a small chargeWeston Pirates - Clubrooms, assets and any finance they have. The new Valley Club was hence formed and to be officially based at Weston.Elected Committee - Murray Watson, Lawrence Hardy, Peter Rowell, Bill Stackhouse, John Ottley, Ross Nuttal, Robin Manson, Mike O’Neil, Ross Cleveland, Ewan Rusbatch, Colin Willets, Bryn Gradwell, Ian Mavor, Bill Winslade.
