2005

President - Peter Twiss

Secretary - June Campbell

Accountant - McKenzie Chartered Accountants

Club Captain - Colin Mavor

Senior B Captain - Chris Jackson

Premier Captain - Mike Mavor

Schoolboys - Bill Young once again was President. The season saw an increase of numbers. A successful season with a good number of boys making representative teams. A good parent support with fundraising keeping the section in very good stead.

Senior B - The Senior B grade once again was thwarted with problems with only 3 local teams; Valley, Maheno and Athletic. The Club moved that we play in the South Canterbury competition and the other two clubs had to follow suit. This worked well for Valley and we had very good numbers all season but the other two local clubs would not travel to Timaru and could not field numbers in several home games. Our Coaches Craig Cottier and Graham Smith kept the team together and had a very good season although they had to endure some defaults emerged as North Otago Senior B Champions winning the Burns Shield defeating Maheno 57-17. They capped off a very good season when they won the Division 2 south Canterbury Competition a week later defeating Pleasant Point 16-10.

Premier - Under Coaches Peter Rowland and Barry Mathews and fitness coach Justin Rawcliffe the Premier team performed beyond expectations and gave the club an un-forgetable season. They played 18 games and won every single one. Points for 909, points against 175. Tries scored 140. Once again we played in the combined North Otago/South Canterbury competition. The season started with 2 pre-season games against Green Island from Dunedin and Southern and then it was into the business part of the season. Valley swept all North Otago and South Canterbury teams before them during the season scoring a record number of points. They recorded scores in the 70's, 80's, and 90's and a record 119-7 win against Timaru’s Celtic. All season they showed superior fitness against the opposition and played fast flowing rugby. The season finished off with club being South Canterbury Aoraki Cup Champions defeating Oamaru Old Boys 35-15 and North Otago Citizen Shield Champions for the 3rd time defeating Maheno 35-25. This game was a real cliff hanger with Valley trailing 25-17 with 4 minutes to go but a try and a Geoff mavor penalty right on full time forced a draw and Valley won the game and the championship in extra time scoring 2 tries.

Premier Trophies won this season - Citizens Shield, Aoraki Cup, North Otago Award, Ray McLeod Memorial, Doran Cup, James Tayles Cup, Best Dressed team, David Isbister Memorial, A.J. Newlands Memorial

Senior B Trophies won 2005, Burns Shield, South Canterbury Division 2 Trophy.

This gave Valley a clean sweep of all Trophies possible to win in a season. A truly memorable achievement.

What a season with the senior cricket team winning the 2004-2005 competition and the 2nd grade team also winning.

The Netball Club had 55 junior players, 1 intermediate and 4 senior teams with the Red team winning their grade .

There was an increase in junior rugby players.

Ryan McCarthy, Fiatu Tuamaahaloa were selected for the N.Z. Divisional team which toured Fiji.
